President John Dramani Mahama is set to visit the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Thursday, 27th August, to perform the official sod-cutting ceremony for a multi-tiered carpark and hotel complex, government officials have disclosed.

The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who disclosed the upcoming exercise in an official statement, highlighted the administration’s track record in transforming the country’s transport infrastructure.

According to the statement, President Mahama has built a reputation for driving mega infrastructure projects across key national sectors. Notable achievements under his tenure include the delivery of Terminal 3 at the Kotoka International Airport, the expansion of the Meridian Port Services (MPS) Terminal at the Tema Harbour, and securing 400 million US dollars in funding for the Tema-to-Mpakadan Railway Project.

The upcoming development at the airport aims to significantly expand parking, lodging, and commercial capacity within the capital’s main aviation hub.

The proposed facility will feature a seven-storey carpark equipped with over 2,000 parking bays, alongside two modern hotels designed to accommodate international travellers and transit passengers. A dedicated pedestrian connector will link the new complex directly to the terminal building to ensure seamless access.

In addition to transport and accommodation facilities, the complex will house a shopping mall containing a food court, retail outlets, and commercial office space available for rental.

The project design also integrates recreational and leisure elements, including a sky lounge for social activities and entertainment, as well as a sky observatory structured to give visitors elevated views of aircraft landings and take-offs.

Government officials expect the multi-purpose project to further enhance overall service delivery, improve traffic flow around the airport precinct, and support commercial aviation growth in Ghana.
