A 30-year-old ex-convict has been nabbed by vigilant residents of Djomoa, a community in the Upper Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region, for alleged livestock theft.
The suspect, identified as Kofi Daniel, alias Okorley, was caught in possession of three goats and a sheep.
According to eyewitnesses, when residents initially questioned him about where he was taking the animals, Okorley claimed he was heading to market to sell them. However, he quickly contradicted himself, asserting instead that he was conveying the livestock to a man named Musa in Sawa, a neighbouring village.
His inconsistent stories aroused deep suspicion among the locals, who refused to accept his claims.
Determined to uncover the truth, the residents obtained Musa’s contact number to verify the story. Faced with intense questioning, Okorley eventually confessed that he had stolen the animals.
The suspect has since been handed over to the Asesewa District Police Command to assist with further investigations aimed at locating the rightful owners of the livestock.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has commended the Djomoa community for their vigilance and prompt action, noting that livestock theft remains a growing concern across the municipality.
