A premix fuel station at Pitiku, a fishing community in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region, has been completely destroyed by fire.
The inferno reduced the facility and its entire contents to ashes, whilst extending to several nearby shops in the area.
Reporting on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Osofoba Enoch disclosed that the disaster struck shortly after a tanker had offloaded premix fuel at the facility.
According to him, eyewitnesses accounted that the fire erupted suddenly following the discharge, spreading rapidly across the premises due to the highly volatile nature of the fuel.
The flames quickly consumed the structural framework of the facility before spreading to adjacent commercial units.
Traders and local residents scrambled to safety as dense smoke filled the air, with shop owners attempting to salvage their goods amidst the heat.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and local authorities were alerted to contain the situation and prevent further damage to neighboring structures.
No fatalities have been confirmed as investigations commence to determine the exact cause of the ignition.
