The Bank of Ghana on Thursday, 27 August 2026, inaugurated the Virtual Assets Coordinating Committee (VACC), marking an important step toward the coordinated implementation of the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2025 (Act 1154).
The Committee brings together the Bank of Ghana, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Cyber Security Authority, and the Financial Intelligence Centre. Its mandate is to strengthen regulatory coordination, enhance information sharing, and ensure a collective response to emerging risks in Ghana’s virtual asset ecosystem.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Johnson Pandit Asiama, underscored the need for a proactive and coordinated approach to the rapidly evolving digital finance landscape.
He stated:”Effective coordination, timely information sharing, and a shared commitment to safeguarding the integrity of our financial system will be essential if we are to build a virtual asset ecosystem that is safe, well-regulated, and supportive of innovation and inclusion.”
The inauguration marks the transition from legislation to effective implementation. The Committee is expected to play a key role in strengthening consumer protection, financial stability, cybersecurity, and the responsible development of Ghana’s virtual asset ecosystem.
