Twenty-seven church members have died and seven others sustained serious injuries following a head-on collision about 130 kilometres south of Harare.
The tragedy occurred when a heavy truck attempting an overtaking manoeuvre crashed into an oncoming minibus carrying congregants of the African Apostolic Church to an annual conference.
The impact caused the minibus to burst into flames, leaving the vehicle almost completely destroyed.
Twenty-three passengers died instantly at the scene, while four others succumbed to their injuries in hospital. Emergency services rushed the seven surviving passengers to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.
Police have launched a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, pending the notification of their next of kin.
