The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced plans to generate US$1.4 billion in foreign exchange during September 2026, building on the initial roll-out of a new financing framework for local gold operations.

The projected revenue follows the formal implementation of the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Policy (GANRAP) on August 3, 2026, after receiving approval from Cabinet and Parliament.

Under the policy, GoldBod concluded structured consultations with key industry institutions, including the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Ghana, commercial banks, and primary market stakeholders, to establish a collaborative financing model supporting artisanal and small-scale mining.

In an official statement issued by the Finance and Trading Directorate, GoldBod confirmed that US700 million of the anticipated September funds will be allocated to commercial banks to support domestic liquidity, with the remaining US700 million designated for central bank reserves.

“In September 2026, GoldBod will generate US1.4 billion in foreign exchange. Of this amount, US700.0 million will be made available to commercial banks to support foreign exchange market stability, while up to US$700 million will be provided to the Bank of Ghana for reserve accumulation,” the statement read.

Reviewing its performance for August 2026—the first month under the updated financing model—GoldBod reported total earnings of US$1.315 billion in foreign exchange.

Out of the August earnings, US668.21 million was injected directly into the commercial banking sector through spot sales and funded forward arrangements to mitigate exchange rate pressures. An additional US646.59 million was transferred to the central bank to strengthen state reserves under the GANRAP framework.

Reiterating its commitment to institutional oversight and financial transparency, the management noted, “GoldBod remains committed to its statutory mandate to generate foreign exchange for Ghana and will continue to work transparently with all stakeholders.”
