Residents of Domfete in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region are calling for urgent intervention from traditional authorities and spiritual leaders following the bizarre desecration of graves at the community cemetery.
Local residents were stunned to discover various consumer items—including bottled water, carbonated drinks, biscuits, toffees, and grinding pots—left atop and inside several graves, creating the disturbing appearance of a provision shop.
Reporting on Nyankonton Mu Nsem via Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, news correspondent Nana Kwame revealed that families of the deceased were completely unaware of the development until the discovery was made.
The affected tombstones include that of Maame Afia Kyeremaah, who was interred just two months ago. Community members suspect that unknown perpetrators carried out the act under the cover of darkness, bypassing local cemetery guards to perform spiritual or money rituals.
Although traditional authorities were alerted immediately after the scene was uncovered, frustration is growing among local residents.
Angry youth in Domfete have threatened to take the law into their own hands by laying ambushes at the cemetery to catch the perpetrators if spiritual leaders and local authorities do not act swiftly to address the sacrilege.
