The Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has inaugurated Ghana’s National Consultative Committee on Regional Integration (NCCRI) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The newly inaugurated committee is mandated to oversee regional integration processes and supervise the various social interventions initiated by ECOWAS within Ghana.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister revealed that the financial assistance pledged by ECOWAS for victims of the June flood disaster in Ghana arrived in the country earlier this week.
He stated that the full donation, amounting to $250,000.00 (approximately GH¢3 million), was transferred directly into the bank accounts of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) to ensure the funds are efficiently disbursed to affected victims.
According to the Minister, ADRA was selected as an independent implementing partner following a joint agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
He emphasized that the central government will have no hand or involvement in determining the selection of beneficiaries for the relief package, leaving the process entirely to the independent agency to handle.
Reassuring the public of the administration’s commitment, the Minister reaffirmed that the government remains dedicated to serving the citizens of Ghana with total integrity, openness, and transparency.
