The Ministry of Health has officially transferred a fully fitted medical centre at Assin Donkokrom to the Assin North District Assembly as part of the government’s Free Primary Healthcare scheme.

The new facility features advanced clinical equipment, including infant incubators, radiant warmers, oxygen concentrators, digital X-ray units, patient monitors, glucometers, lab analysers, and ultrasound machines.

The structure houses a dispensary, consultation quarters, a waiting lounge, storage areas, and a maternity delivery suite.

Speaking for the Health Minister, Ing. George Boadu, Director of Biomedical Engineering at the Ministry, emphasised that the policy ensures free basic medical care reaches deprived rural areas.

He noted that the strategy prioritises preventive care, public education, and routine check-ups to ease out-of-pocket costs for families.

Assin North District Chief Executive, Hon. Sylvester Amakye-Nyarkoh, stated that the centre will cater to surrounding settlements, including Yaw-Sarmang, Beseduro-ase, Awiafitaam, Fante, Ahyirensu, Tettehsuo, Adukrom, and Donkokrom. He described the project as evidence of President John Dramani Mahama’s drive to reform the health sector, while urging local residents to support incoming medical staff.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the community, the Chief of Assin Donkokrom, Nana Acquiros Odam Marnah, highlighted that the centre eliminates hazardous, long-distance travel for emergency medical attention.

He called on authorities to construct staff accommodation, promising that locals would supply building land and manual labor for the housing project.
