Anloga Junction traders protest threatened eviction

September 2, 2026

Protesters took to the streets of Anloga Junction early on Tuesday morning following an eviction notice issued on behalf of a private developer, who plans to build on the site near the Oforikrom traffic intersection.

The affected groups—comprising tomato cargo transporters, taxi drivers, and plywood vendors—claim they have occupied the busy business hub for more than 45 years. They argue that any sudden ejectment without clear proof of ownership or proper engagement is both unlawful and unjust.

Previous discussions involving group leaders, the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly, and the private developer failed to produce a consensus.

The traders are now questioning the validity of the land title documents presented by the developer. They contend the plot is a government reserve earmarked for a future road interchange, rather than a site for private development.

Speaking during the demonstration, the chairman of the trader group, Obed Kwame Kataka, stated that the group would not oppose legitimate state infrastructure projects.

“We have been here for more than 45 years. This place is our workplace. We are not against government development,” Kataka said. “If government says it wants to build an interchange here, we will leave. But we will not allow a private developer to come and take our land from us.”

Other demonstrators expressed concern that an eviction would leave hundreds of families without a livelihood, worsening local economic conditions.

The group is calling on the Ashanti Regional Minister, the Oforikrom Municipal Chief Executive, and the Lands Commission to intervene, investigate the developer’s title claims, and resolve the dispute.
