Following a devastating highway collision that claimed 13 lives and left 18 others injured, a senior fire officer is urgently calling on government authorities to establish a dedicated trauma centre in Sege to prevent future loss of life along the accident-prone stretch.
DOII Ebenezer Yenzu, Public Relations Officer for the Tema Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), warned that the lack of emergency medical facilities along the Ada corridor critically delays life-saving treatment for crash victims.
Speaking on NyankontonMuNsemonRainbowRadio87.5FM, he stated that “The lack of a trauma centre in the area delays critical care for accident victims,” Yenzu stated. “Just as we have the Winneba Trauma Centre, it would not be out of place to establish one around Sege or expand Sege Hospital to meet emergency demands.”
His appeal comes in the immediate aftermath of a gory Wednesday crash involving a Ford Transit and a Toyota Hiace, both travelling toward Ada.
Firefighters from the Sege station deployed to the scene to extract passengers trapped in the wreckage.
Most of the deceased were women travelling to a local market. While the injured continue to receive treatment and police investigate the cause of the collision, recovered personal belongings remain secured at the Sege Police Station.
