The Judicial Service of Ghana has responded to the public commentary following recent remarks made by the Chief Justice regarding the performance of state-owned entities during an outreach engagement.

In an official press statement released on September 4, 2026, the Judicial Secretary, Mr. Musah Ahmed, clarified that the Chief Justice’s comments were made in good faith and were not intended to compromise the autonomy of the bench.

Addressing the varied responses generated by the Chief Justice’s observations, the statement noted that the head of the Judiciary had taken note of the public discourse.

“The Chief Justice has taken note of the mixed public reaction to some observations he made recently on the performance of State-owned entities during an outreach engagement,” the Judicial Secretary stated.

Reassuring the public and stakeholders within the legal sector, Mr. Ahmed emphasized that the comments were intended constructively rather than as a threat to judicial impartiality.

“The observations were made in good faith, and were not intended to serve a purpose inimical to judicial independence,” Mr. Ahmed explained.

He further reiterated the head of the Judiciary’s dedicated focus on maintaining institutional integrity, legal fairness, and the rule of law across the country.

“The Chief Justice remains committed to upholding the integrity and independence of the Judiciary, and the promotion of justice and equality before the law,” the Judicial Secretary added.
