Second Deputy Minority Whip Debunks GH¢70,000 Vetting Funds Claim

Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the Second Deputy Minority Whip, has dismissed reports alleging that Asokwa MP and Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei sent back GH¢70,000 supposedly allocated to her for the vetting of Supreme Court nominees and ministers.

Addressing the controversy, Mr Shaib described the circulating memo that triggered the claims as fraudulent, urging the general public to disregard it entirely.

He disclosed that the Asokwa legislator personally disowned the document, stating she was completely unaware of its origins or who wrote it.

“She has confirmed that she has no idea where the letter emanated from or who authored it,” Mr Ahmed said.

The false correspondence suggested that Mrs Appiagyei had surrendered the GH¢70,000 sum due to uncertainty over its origin, alongside a desire to avoid gaining personally from the parliamentary vetting process. It further alluded to the Minority caucus’s choice to boycott the vetting of three Supreme Court candidates over procedural grievances.

Mr Shaib added that inquiries made with the Majority leadership confirmed that no such communication or monetary disbursement had come from their office.
