Constituents are calling me – Baba Ali Yussif signals 2028 Ayawaso East bid, vows deeper engagement

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East, Baba Ali Yussif, says residents of the constituency are urging him to contest the seat again in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Weekend Morning Show with host Eddie Ray on Saturday, 5 September 2026, Baba Ali disclosed that he has already begun renewed engagements with imams, traditional leaders, and ordinary constituents who want him to return as the party’s standard‑bearer.

He said that if given the opportunity again, he is confident he can “make some difference” in the constituency, arguing that the short campaign window during the recent by‑election limited his ability to fully connect with voters.

“This time will be different,” he told the programme, suggesting that with more time and sustained outreach, he believes the NPP can reclaim Ayawaso East under his leadership.

Renewed outreach to religious and traditional leaders
Baba Ali highlighted his ongoing consultations with key community stakeholders, including imams and traditional leaders, as part of his groundwork for a possible 2028 contest.

In a constituency like Ayawaso East, where religious and traditional authorities wield significant moral and social influence, such engagements are often seen as critical to building trust and mobilising support across different voter groups.

By positioning himself within these same networks, Baba Ali Yussif appears to be laying the foundation for a broad‑based coalition that cuts across religious, ethnic, and community lines.

Baba Ali pointed to the compressed timeline of the recent parliamentary by‑election as a major constraint on his campaign. The by‑poll was held on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, following a vacancy in the seat, and was observed by the African Electoral Institute (AEI).
