Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has hosted and rewarded the triumphing National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) team from Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC, Legon) following their latest championship victory.
The Minister, an alumnus of the school, received the nine-time NSMQ champions alongside their teaching staff at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to celebrate the achievement and uphold what he described as the long-standing “Odade3 tradition.”
Speaking during the presentation, Mr Ablakwa reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the academic excellence of his alma mater, noting that he presented high-performance laptops and cash incentives to the team and their instructors.
“It was a profoundly proud moment to receive the 9-time NSMQ champions and the coveted trophy at the Foreign Ministry yesterday,” Mr Ablakwa stated.
He highlighted that the rewards were tailored specifically to the requests of the students and their teachers to support their continued academic endeavours.
“As I have done consistently for many years, I donated MacBooks to the champions according to their preference, and also donated laptops to the coordinators (teaching staff) in line with their wishes,” he noted.
In addition to the computing devices, the championship-winning team received a cash prize, a fully funded holiday treat, and a commitment for enhanced logistical support for the school’s quiz programme.
“In addition, the Odade3 champions received a cash award, a holiday treat and a special NSMQ bus to be delivered in December,” the Foreign Minister added.
Celebrating the milestone, Mr Ablakwa commended the dedication of the students and trainers, urging the current generation of students to remain steadfast in their pursuit of academic distinction.
“May God continue to bless our Odade3 qualities of hard work, sacrifice, perseverance, integrity and commitment to excellence,” he expressed.
The gesture forms part of ongoing individual and alumni efforts to equip PRESEC Legon with the necessary resources to maintain its dominant streak in the nationwide competition.
