A Mercedes-Benz concrete mixer truck driver has been convicted and fined by the Madina District Magistrate Court for dumping concrete onto the busy Madina-Adenta Highway.

The driver, Solomon Tawiah, was operating a vehicle registered GE 4891-14 belonging to Betonsa Ghana Limited when the incident occurred on Saturday, 5 September 2026.

The spill took place approximately 100 metres from the Zongo Junction Traffic Light, after which Tawiah drove away from the scene.

Officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) under the Madina Divisional Police Command launched an investigation following public tips.

Enquiries led police to Betonsa Ghana Limited’s premises in Spintex, where officers engaged the company’s transport manager.

On Tuesday, 8 September 2026, the transport manager presented Tawiah to the police. He was subsequently charged under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2519) for placing construction materials on the road, causing danger to road users, and obstructing traffic.

Tawiah pleaded guilty to all three counts upon appearing in court. The presiding magistrate sentenced him to a fine of 25 penalty units per count, ordered to run consecutively. The court confirmed that the fines have since been paid in full.

In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the police commended members of the public for providing timely information.

The command reiterated its warning to motorists and transport managers that reckless conduct on public roads carries severe legal consequences.
