Member of Parliament for Madina, Dr. Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the reported seizure of a cocaine shipment valued at approximately $260 million by French authorities.
In a statement published on his official Facebook page, the lawmaker stressed that Ghana’s standing on the international stage must be safeguarded through strict legal enforcement and accountability.
“His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the NDC Government have done commendably well in positioning Ghana as a respected global leader in diplomacy,” Dr. Sosu stated.
He further commended the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its role in advancing the nation’s international profile.
“The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has equally worked tirelessly to project Ghana onto the international stage as a country of integrity and a leader in democracy in Africa,” he added.
Dr. Sosu, who serves as a member of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, warned against actions capable of undermining national diplomatic gains.
“This hard-earned reputation must not be dented by the actions of a few self-serving individuals who may seek to illegally enrich themselves at the expense of the State,” he noted.
Directly addressing the drug interception, the Madina legislator insisted that those responsible must face the full force of the law.
“Accordingly, I believe the reported seizure by French authorities of a cocaine consignment valued at approximately $260 million must be thoroughly investigated, and any persons found culpable must be brought to book,” he said.
Concluding his statement, Dr. Sosu underscored the critical need to preserve national integrity.
“Ghana’s international reputation is a national asset. It must be protected through transparency, accountability and the uncompromising enforcement of the law. For God and Country,” he stated.
