The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has revealed that over 24,000 units of essential medical equipment have been dispatched to primary health facilities nationwide to drive the smooth execution of the Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) initiative.

Addressing chiefs and residents at a colourful community durbar at the Fian Health Centre in the Daffiama Bussie Issa District of the Upper West Region, the Minister stated that 5,000 specialised medical kit bags have already reached frontline workers.

He assured the gathering that an additional batch of 5,000 healthcare bags, along with 7,000 motorbikes and tricycles, will be rolled out in the coming weeks to enhance mobile healthcare operations.

According to Hon. Akandoh, the provision of these logistics forms part of a broader strategy to shift the nation’s health delivery model away from traditional facility-bound care towards a proactive, community-centred system.

The vehicles and specialized tools will empower health personnel to conduct routine home visits and reach citizens in places of worship, markets, and remote settlements, focusing heavily on preventative care and early diagnosis.

Under the updated protocol, medical teams will carry out doorstep screenings for non-communicable diseases, particularly hypertension and diabetes, ensuring early referral for advanced care before complications arise.

The Minister reaffirmed that services at Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, health centres, and polyclinics remain completely free under the FPHC scheme. Patients accessing these primary care points will receive cost-free treatment for everyday ailments, including malaria, diarrhoeal diseases, and acute respiratory infections.
