The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has appealed to the Ghanaian public to support its efforts in dismantling illicit drug activities across the country.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to breaking down criminal supply chains through strategic local and international law-enforcement partnerships, while urging Ghanaians to provide credible intelligence to assist in capturing suspects.
Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations at NACOC, stated that illicit drug trafficking is a syndicated enterprise requiring a tactical approach during investigations and arrests.
He posited that the Commission remains committed to dealing with illicit drug trafficking, but will need the support of the public to succeed.
According to him, individuals who provide credible information about suspected drug dealers will have their identities fully protected. He assured that such information will be treated as strictly confidential, with no trace back to the informants.
He added that NACOC currently operates in 77 districts across the country, where members of the public can safely report cases under guaranteed informant protection.
“The National Security recently launched ‘See Something, Say Something’ initiative which encourages the public to report suspicious activities to any other security agencies. What this means is that, the Commission collaborates with other agencies in dealing with drug-related activities; however, we will require the support of Ghanaians in dealing with such cases. Although we have our ways of handling illicit drug investigations, we cannot do without the public. So we appeal to Ghanaians to support us in cracking down on these drug traffickers.
“We operate across the country and currently in 77 districts. So you can contact us and provide us with any credible information. Your identity will be protected. Mr. Amoah was responding to the recent arrest of three suspects for allegedly facilitating the activities of Dutch fugitive Jos Leijdekkers, widely known as “Bolle Jos,” in Ghana.
The arrests followed a major operation in which French customs intercepted a massive cocaine shipment linked to a wider international syndicate.
According to NACOC, the suspects remain in custody to assist investigators in probing their involvement in the cross-border trafficking enterprise.
