Police in the Eastern South Divisional Command have arrested a 35-year-old man, locally known as Obolo, after he allegedly butchered his friend, Kwame Marfo, 35, at Kwahu Besease in the Kwahu South Municipality.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at a health facility following severe cutlass wounds inflicted on his body.
Narrating the incident to Nyankonton Mu Nsem, Kwasi Ofei, a younger brother to the victim and an eyewitness, revealed that no major dispute previously existed between the two men. However, tension mounted on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, when the suspect’s wife approached them to mediate a domestic issue. According to Ofei, Obolo had locked out his wife and children, refusing them entry into their family home.
Responding to the woman’s plea, Kwame Marfo and another friend, identified only as Kofi, visited the suspect’s residence on Thursday evening, September 10, to resolve the matter. Obolo, suspecting that his wife had mobilized local men to attack him, confronted the pair at the door armed with a sharp machete.
Despite attempts by the men to calm him down, Obolo threatened them, forcing Marfo and Kofi to flee the scene for safety.
The suspect subsequently targeted Kofi, but failing to meet him at home, went to Kofi’s farm and destroyed his plantain crops. Obolo then phoned Kofi, warning that he would have inflicted the same violence on him had he been present.
Moments later, Obolo traced Marfo to his residence, launched a direct attack, and inflicted multiple deep cutlass wounds on him.
Reacting to the incident, a Unit Committee Member in the area, Patrick Agyei, commended the local youth for acting swiftly to detain Obolo before handing him over to the police to face the full rigours of the law.
