The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has warned Ghanaians to prepare for a heavy wave of misinformation and fake news from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the nation approaches the 2028 general elections.

According to the Effutu lawmaker, the administration will aggressively deploy propaganda and manufactured distractions in a desperate bid to hold onto power and draw public attention away from its policy failures.

In a statement aimed at exposing the government’s political strategy, Mr Afenyo-Markin noted that disinformation has long been a core tactic of the NDC. He urged citizens to scrutinise allegations originating from the party, pointing out that many claims made while in opposition have since been disproven by facts.

“Going into the 2028 elections, one strategy the NDC Government is likely to use aggressively, in its desperation to hold on to power, is misinformation and disinformation,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

He added: “Expect fake news and manufactured distractions aimed at taking attention away from the important national issues on which the Government has failed to deliver. This is not new; it is a political tool they have mastered.”

The Minority Leader called on all Ghanaians to exercise critical thinking and refuse to fall for deceptive narratives.

“Every Ghanaian must understand this strategy. We must stay vigilant, question what we are told, and refuse to be distracted from the issues that affect us,” he urged.

Addressing officers, communicators, and members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Afenyo-Markin stressed that the party bears an even greater responsibility to protect the public from political deceit. He charged NPP faithful to remain disciplined, counter falsehoods promptly, and keep public discourse centered on the economic reality.

“NPP members, officers, and communicators especially carry an even greater responsibility. We must remain alert, disciplined, and focused. Check the facts, expose the lies quickly, and never allow false propaganda to dictate our agenda,” he stated.

He further urged the party to champion the policy vision of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia while holding the government accountable for its unfulfilled campaign promises.

“Keep the focus on the Government’s broken promises and the everyday problems Ghanaians face. Above all, stay on message by promoting Dr Bawumia’s vision for Ghana with clarity and conviction while working relentlessly towards victory in 2028. Expose the lies. Focus on the issues. Promote the vision. Win 2028,” he concluded.

Expect FAKE NEWS and manufactured distractions aimed at taking attention away from the important national issues on which the Government has failed to deliver.

This is not new, it is a political tool they have mastered.

Go back and examine the accusations, claims and stories they promoted while in opposition. Several have since been contradicted by the FACTS, exposed as misleading or proven entirely false.
