Veteran Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs, one of Nollywood’s most revered icons, has passed away at the age of 84.
Celebrated for his commanding screen presence, Jacobs was best known for portraying royalty, traditional rulers, and authoritative figures in a career that spanned several decades and dozens of films.
Trained at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, Jacobs began his professional journey in British television during the 1970s. He later returned to Nigeria, where he emerged as a foundational figure in the rapid growth of the country’s cinematic industry.
Throughout his distinguished career, the Ogun State native earned numerous accolades, including prestigious lifetime achievement awards recognizing his immense contribution to African film and theatre.
Jacobs is survived by his wife, renowned actress Joke Silva, and their children.
