The Ghana Police Service has interdicted seven personnel for their alleged involvement in an extortion incident in Accra.
According to a police statement, the officers allegedly demanded money from a victim and forced him to withdraw the funds from an automated teller machine (ATM).
The statement, signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah, Staff Officer at the Public Affairs Directorate, confirmed that the interdicted officers were members of a patrol team.
The affected personnel have been identified as Inspector Courage Boateng, General Sergeant Stephen Addo, General Corporal Moses Anyravi, General Corporal Prosper Adiabo, General Lance Corporal Samuel Anokye, General Constable Henrietta Coleman, and General Constable Bernard Amoako.
According to the Police, “The interdiction is to make way for ongoing investigation by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB).”
“The Ghana Police Service assures the public that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action taken based on the outcome of the investigations,” the statement added.
