President John Dramani Mahama has held high-level bilateral talks with the Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Makhtar Diop, to deepen strategic partnerships aimed at transforming Ghana’s economy.

The engagement focused on accelerating growth in key sectors, particularly commercial agriculture, industrialisation, and large-scale infrastructure development.

Highlighting the focal points of the discussion, President Mahama stated that the dialogue centered on “deepening our strategic partnership to transform Ghana’s economy, with a strong emphasis on boosting commercial agriculture production in cocoa, oil palm, and poultry.”

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to value addition and job creation, the President reiterated a firm policy stance on local resource processing.

“Reaffirming our commitment to industrialisation, I reiterated our firm policy to process at least 50% of our cocoa, farm produce, and mineral resources to create sustainable jobs for our youth,” President Mahama noted.

The bilateral meeting also addressed critical national infrastructure needs under the government’s flaghip development agenda. According to the President, both parties “explored opportunities under The Big Push programme to overhaul our infrastructure, specifically in railways, aviation, and road network development,” along with targeted investments in energy, digital connectivity, and education.

On education financing, President Mahama revealed a major funding breakthrough secured in partnership with the World Bank to address secondary school infrastructure constraints.

“Through our collaboration with the World Bank, we have secured a $300 million financing package to permanently end the double-track system in Senior High Schools by the end of 2027,” he stated.

Addressing the broader economic landscape, President Mahama expressed optimism about the trajectory of the nation’s recovery, citing key macroeconomic indicators as evidence of stabilizing interventions.

“Despite the severe economic crisis we inherited, our commitment to prudent management and fiscal discipline is already yielding positive results. We are seeing a sharp decline in inflation, reduced national indebtedness, and a strong resurgence of investor confidence,” the President affirmed.
