Justice & Accountability Group Rallies Behind Sammy Gyamfi, Defends Ghana Gold Board

September 20, 2026
Nana-Owusu

Executive Director of the Justice and Accountability group, Nana Bonsu, has called for public support for the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) and its head, Sammy Gyamfi, describing recent attacks against them as needless.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Nana Bonsu commended the young lawyer for transforming the institution, noting that his performance proves young people can excel when given leadership opportunities. He cautioned the opposition against actions that could undermine national progress and highlighted that the Auditor-General’s report showed positive financial results for the board.

Following an independent review of the institution’s operations, the group concluded that there was no wrongdoing on the part of GoldBod.

“We have followed the issues, done our own investigations, evaluations, and analysis of the issues, and we can confidently state that GoldBod has demonstrated a lot of commitment through the work they do. Sammy Gyamfi, who was appointed to head the institution, has also proven his worth. What we can all do is to support him so he will do better and not try to pull him down. We have the right to criticise, but we have to do so with the facts and not allow any political reasons to cloud our judgement,” Nana Bonsu noted.

He further clarified that allegations of financial losses are unfounded, pointing to GoldBod’s audited financial statements, which recorded a surplus of approximately GH¢5.44 billion for the 2025 financial year.

Nana Bonsu explained that critics have conflated GoldBod’s financial standing with the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme. He emphasised that both entities operate independently with distinct statutory duties, financial records, and reporting obligations. Consequently, any losses recorded by the Central Bank due to foreign exchange operations, reserve accumulations, or valuation changes cannot be attributed to GoldBod.
