A 52-year-old South African national has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after being intercepted with heroin worth more than R2 million in his luggage.
The suspect, who arrived on a flight from Accra, Ghana, on Sunday, 20 September 2026, was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation conducted by the South African Police Service in collaboration with the Border Management Authority.
A search of his luggage uncovered bullet-shaped objects and blocks containing the illicit substance.
This arrest marks the third suspected drug mule intercepted at the airport within the last three weeks, highlighting an ongoing crackdown on international drug trafficking syndicates using the facility as a transit point.
Police confirmed that the suspect will appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court later this week to face drug trafficking charges as investigations continue.
