Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has called on state authorities to exercise restraint and uphold fairness in the arrest and prosecution of political figures over comments made on social media and public platforms.
Addressing congregants at the 2026 Mampong Ohum/Odwira festival, the lawmaker urged law enforcement bodies to ensure equal application of the law, regardless of an individual’s political affiliation.
While advocating for responsible public discourse, Mr Annoh-Dompreh cautioned that state prosecutorial powers must not be weaponised to stifle free expression or promote the perception of political targeting. He underscored the need for complete impartiality and strict adherence to democratic principles when addressing issues stemming from public commentary.
Expressing concern over the rising trend of online abuse, he appealed to traditional authorities to intervene and help restore decorum to the political landscape.
“There is something dangerous creeping into our political space. We are witnessing a situation where people take to social media to insult the President, his wife, politicians, chiefs, and other public figures. This is unhealthy, and we cannot afford to stay silent. We are therefore appealing to our chiefs to intervene, as this behavior is culturally unacceptable and must be condemned,” he stated.
He further cautioned against partisan bias in law enforcement, stressing that justice must be applied equally across the political spectrum.
“The other point I want to raise concerns the selective justice surrounding these activities. We cannot arrest individuals in ‘Party A’ while turning a blind eye to those in ‘Party B’ who commit the exact same offense,” he added.
