Hon Dr Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, an aspiring National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says he consulted widely across the party before publicly declaring his intention to contest the position.
According to him, the consultations convinced him that there was strong support for his candidature among the party’s grassroots, regional structures, national stakeholders, and supporters.
Speaking on the Rainbow Radio Weekend Show, Dr Oppong-Fosu said he did not rush into the contest or make the declaration based solely on personal conviction.
He explained that he first engaged people whose views mattered within the NDC to determine whether his decision would receive the necessary support from the party.
The former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development said the consultations covered the grassroots, regional party members, national stakeholders, and supporters of the NDC.
He said the engagements enabled him to understand the concerns of party members and assess their expectations of the next National Chairman.
He said the consultations revealed what he described as a broad convergence of views on the need to strengthen the party and improve its internal structures.
