Members of Parliament on the Sanitation and Water Resources Committee have praised the ongoing development of the Zoomlion Ghana Limited Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant (IRECOP) situated at Yabram in the Dambai Municipality of the Oti Region.
The parliamentary delegation conveyed their satisfaction following a three-day monitoring tour across Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Volta and Oti Regions, which concluded on Saturday, 19 September 2026.
Briefing journalists after the inspection, the Chairman of the Committee, John Oti Bless, emphasized the necessity of collective backing for private-sector waste management facilities to accelerate national sanitation targets.
“Government and the various stakeholders must come on board and support this special initiative. Our target is to have a clean Ghana,” he appealed.
The facility, which has been operational for approximately three years, is currently undergoing further structural improvements, including the completion of perimeter fencing to secure the site.
Reflecting on regional benchmarks, Hon. Oti Bless pointed to Rwanda’s success story, attributing its reputation for cleanliness to strict regulatory compliance and civic responsibility. He identified widespread indiscipline and unapproved waste disposal as major hurdles hindering Ghana’s environmental health goals.
“The Assemblies must begin to put bye-laws in place and implement and enforce them. That is the only way we can get out of this mess,” he stressed.
The Committee Chairman acknowledged the vital role of private service providers in bridging waste management gaps nationwide, highlighting Zoomlion Ghana Limited for its heavy investments in modern infrastructure.
He further called for deliberate partnerships between government authorities, private investors, and waste treatment companies to scale up recycling projects across the country rather than relying solely on traditional dumping methods.
Assessing the overall state of environmental cleanliness observed during the tour, Hon. Oti Bless commended the Volta Region for maintaining high sanitation standards relative to other areas visited.
“We are impressed with the state of sanitation in the Volta Region. It is the cleanest region. There is no doubt about that,” he said.
The Committee’s fact-finding mission is scheduled to continue through the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Ashanti, and Eastern Regions in the next phase before extending to the rest of the country.
Closing his remarks, Hon. Oti Bless appealed to media houses across Ghana to step up public education campaigns to sensitise citizens on good hygiene and proper waste disposal habits.
