Mobile money transactions in Ghana reached GH¢518.8 billion in August 2026, marking a significant surge in digital payment adoption across the country.
Data released in the Bank of Ghana’s September 2026 Summary of Economic and Financial Data reveals a 46.5 per cent year-on-year increase from the GH¢354.1 billion recorded in August 2025. The latest figure also exceeds the GH¢509.4 billion registered in July 2026.
Transaction volumes similarly expanded during the period under review. The central bank logged 1.046 billion transactions in August, rising from 969 million in July.
The broader mobile financial ecosystem showed steady growth alongside transaction metrics. Registered mobile money accounts hit 85.8 million in August, with active accounts reaching 26.4 million. The active agent network expanded to 594,000, up from 550,000 in July, bolstering accessibility for consumers and merchants.
Additionally, the total balance on mobile money float edged up to GH¢39.8 billion in August, compared to GH¢39 billion in July.
According to the Bank of Ghana, active accounts are defined as those executing at least one transaction within 90 days of reporting, while active agents are those conducting at least one transaction within a 30-day window.
