The Ghana Police Service has apprehended two key suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Toure in Kumasi.
The suspects, identified as Salifu Walid, a 32-year-old Nigerien, and Aziz Wadrago Mane, a 24-year-old Burkinabe, were rounded up on 20th September 2026 at their hideout in Banpanase near Mamponteng, located in the Ashanti Region. Their arrest follows a sustained intelligence-led operation mounted by the law enforcement agency.
According to preliminary police investigations, the duo form part of a four-member criminal enterprise that targeted and orchestrated the abduction and subsequent killing of the Senegalese international. The syndicate operated by posing as fake football scouts, relying on online networks to entice unsuspecting victims into Ghana under the guise of offering career opportunities.
Police revealed that during interrogation, both suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime and detailed their specific roles in luring the late footballer into the country as part of an elaborate scheme to defraud him.
The incident traces back to 16th October 2025, when individuals claiming to be brothers of the goalkeeper rushed him to the Manhyia Hospital in Kumasi.
The victim was presenting severe abdominal injuries, with the men alleging he had been involved in an accident. Medical personnel pronounced Cheikh Toure dead on arrival.
Following his death, the suspects deposited his remains at the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo, Kumasi, before fleeing the scene.
A police source confirmed that tracking measures have been intensified to locate two additional accomplices currently on the run, identified as Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and an individual known only as Barry.
“The police are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the remaining accomplices are brought to justice. Suspects Sylviain and Barry played central roles in the group’s operations, and intelligence units are actively pursuing leads to secure their arrest,” the statement noted.
The two arrested suspects remain in police custody and will be processed for court appearance in due course.
