Heavy rainfall caused the River Dayi to overflow, submerging more than half of the Zongo community and surrounding areas in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region. The severe flooding has affected over 400 homes and displaced more than 3,000 residents.
Affected families have been evacuated to temporary shelters, including local classrooms, while authorities seek longer-term accommodations.
Stressing the severity of the crisis, Hohoe Member of Parliament Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo appealed for immediate relief aid.
“It’s overwhelming. The MP and the MCE alone cannot—in fact, we are not able to handle this. We are calling for support,” Tsekpo stated during a media interview.
The MP also praised the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and emergency security services for their swift evacuation efforts, which successfully prevented loss of life.
