A seven-member Australian delegation has visited the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) headquarters in Accra to explore ways of deepening bilateral cooperation on disaster management and emergency response.
Led by the First Secretary and Consul of the Australian High Commission, Mr Oliver Gao, the team met with NADMO officials to gain insight into Ghana’s national disaster management framework and operational strategies.
Welcoming the delegation, the Director General of NADMO, Major Dr Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon (Rtd), underscored the importance of proactive planning and inter-agency collaboration in mitigating disaster risks.
“Disaster management is a process, not an event,” Maj. Dr Kuyon (Rtd) stated, highlighting the necessity for continuous readiness and structured protocols before crises arise.
The discussions focused on NADMO’s core mandate, response structures, and practical mechanisms for coordinating support for Australian citizens and other foreign nationals during major emergencies in Ghana.
To boost operational readiness, NADMO disclosed plans to integrate diplomatic missions into upcoming field simulation exercises.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing dialogue, knowledge sharing, and joint efforts in disaster preparedness, crisis communication, and emergency management.
