A new partnership between the government and tech giant Huawei will see 3,000 girls receive training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) before the end of the year, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has announced.
According to her, the scheme is designed to feed directly into the administration’s broader One Million Coders Programme.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang made the revelation in Tamale during the Cohort 5 Graduation and HACSA @10 Summit, where she highlighted ongoing state interventions aimed at bridging the digital gender gap.
She stressed that young women must be given a fair shot in the modern digital landscape, pointing out that such opportunities must be nurtured early and sustained through school into the job market.
“That is why work is underway with the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to extend foundational digital skills training to young students,” she said.
The Vice President noted that the established Girls-in-ICT initiative continues to equip young women with skills in computing, coding, and animation.
She further explained that higher education institutions are being brought on board through targeted collaborations under the One Million Coders project.
“Taken together, these initiatives are helping build a stronger pipeline from early exposure to advanced training, with employment as the ultimate aim,” she stated.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended the HACSA Tech4Girls project, noting that its interventions align with national efforts to empower women and ensure they play a pivotal role in Ghana’s digital evolution.
