The Bank of Ghana on Thursday welcomed the Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, Mr Henry F. Saamoi, and his delegation to Bank Square for a courtesy visit aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation between the two financial institutions.
The high-level engagement follows the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier this year, which established a formal framework for capacity building, technical cooperation, and knowledge sharing between the two central banks.
Chaired by the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, discussions focused heavily on West African financial integration and infrastructure development.
During the meeting, the Liberian delegation expressed gratitude to the Bank of Ghana for its continued guidance under the MoU framework.
Mr Saamoi noted that Liberia is particularly keen on leveraging Ghana’s experience to strengthen its own national payment systems.
A central point of discussion was the successful deployment and operations of the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS).
The Central Bank of Liberia aims to draw key insights from Ghana’s regulatory frameworks, implementation strategies, and operational lessons as Monrovia works to modernise its financial technology sector.
Reaffirming Accra’s dedication to the partnership, Mrs Asante-Asiedu reiterated that the Bank of Ghana remains committed to providing sustained technical assistance and expertise to its Liberian counterpart.
She stressed that peer-to-peer learning and sub-regional cooperation remain essential drivers for building resilient, innovative, and secure financial systems across the continent.
The delegation’s visit highlights the growing diplomatic and economic ties between both institutions as West African nations continue to align their financial infrastructure.
