The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has joined forces with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to inaugurate a five-man search committee tasked with finding the next head coach for the senior national team, the Black Stars.
This decisive move comes on the back of a high-level consultative meeting between the leadership of the football governing body and the sports ministry on Friday, October 2, 2026, in Accra.
Former GFA Vice-President Fred Pappoe, a seasoned football administrator with extensive governance experience, has been appointed to steer the committee as chairman. He will work alongside former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah and former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe, who currently serves as the General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana.
The conmittee is further strengthened by legal practitioner and football administrator Agbesi Dzakpasu, alongside high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah.
Under its official terms of reference, the committee is mandated to conduct a thorough search, evaluate potential applicants, and recommend the best candidate to the GFA Executive Council for appointment.
The head coach position became vacant on Thursday, October 1, 2026, following the sudden resignation of Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz in the aftermath of the September international fixtures.
Both the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a fully transparent, rigorous, and merit-based selection process to land a top-tier coach capable of steering the Black Stars to success in their upcoming international assignments.
