The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has disqualified the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Digital Centres, Dzifa Gunu, from contesting to retain his position as the Constituency Secretary for La Dadekotopon.
The decision follows his failure to resign from his government appointment prior to filing his nomination, violating the party’s internal electoral regulations.
Explaining the rationale behind the vetting outcome, the Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, Mahdi Gibril, stated that Mr Gunu breached a mandatory clause requiring appointees to step down at least six months before entering internal contests.
“Mr Gunu failed to resign from his government appointment at least six months before filing his nomination, as required by the party’s election guidelines,” Mr Gibril noted.
The opposition party has maintained a strict stance regarding its regulatory guidelines, reiterating that any government appointee who fails to satisfy the mandatory resignation timeline remains strictly ineligible to contest executive positions at all levels.
The enforcement of the directive aims to maintain fairness and prevent potential conflicts of interest between public office duties and internal party administrative roles.
With the disqualification upheld, Mr Gunu’s bid to retain the La Dadekotopon Constituency Secretary seat has come to an end, clearing the path for the remaining eligible candidates to contest the seat.
