The arraignment of Harold Norman, accused of abusing his wife, Rosemond Akua Adobea, popularly known as Nana Akua, was stalled on Wednesday after his lawyer informed the police that he had been admitted to the hospital.
The Police Service disclosed that investigators from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) have visited the facility to verify the claim and are monitoring his condition to ensure he is brought to court immediately upon discharge.
The case follows a petition submitted on 20 August 2026 by Mrs Adobea to the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), in which she alleged that her husband had subjected her to physical, emotional, and economic abuse.
According to preliminary inquiries, DOVVSU officers at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations had previously handled a matter involving the couple in July 2026.
Following the petition, police arrested Mr Norman at his residence on 27 August 2026 to assist with investigations. A caution statement was taken from him before he was granted police enquiry bail with two sureties on 29 August 2026.
In a statement signed by Public Relations Officer Chief Inspector Francis Kwesi Yeboah, the police confirmed that the CID is collaborating with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to provide social welfare services for the victim and her children.
“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that complaints brought before the Service are investigated professionally and fairly,” Chief Inspector Yeboah stated.
