President John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral discussions with India’s Minister for External Affairs, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, aimed at strengthening the long-standing relations between Ghana and India, with a strong focus on trade, investment, rail development, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
During the meeting, both leaders explored strategic opportunities to deepen economic cooperation while advancing a more equitable global order that rejects unilateralism and the subversion of national sovereignty.
President Mahama highlighted the impressive growth in trade between the two nations, revealing that Ghanaian exports to India have surged from approximately US3 billion to nearly US7 billion. He emphasized that Ghana continues to gain significantly from Indian technology and equipment, particularly agricultural machinery, automobiles, and public transport buses.
Addressing pharmaceutical cooperation, the President reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to forge robust partnerships to support local drug and vaccine manufacturing. He noted that such initiatives align with the health sovereignty objectives outlined under the Accra Reset initiative.
For his part, Dr Jaishankar conveyed warm greetings from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. He expressed the commitment of India’s leadership to ensuring the comprehensive partnership between both countries is given practical expression through new avenues of mutual cooperation.
The high-level interaction forms part of broader ongoing efforts by both nations to expand cooperation across vital sectors including infrastructure, ICT, healthcare, trade, and investment.
