The exhibition showcased an extensive display of paintings, crafts, and creative works produced jointly by the Director-General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), and inmates, affectionately referred to as Adehyeɛ, drawn from various prison facilities across the country.

The opening day saw active engagement with young minds, as students from selected schools in Accra—including Kinbu Senior High Technical School, Labone Senior High School, and Rangoon School—visited the venue.

The students toured the gallery, interacted directly with the artists, and gained firsthand insight into the transformative power of creative expression within correctional institutions.

Organisers noted that the session served to educate pupils on the correctional system while fostering empathy and public support for offender reintegration.

The climax on the second day gathered key dignitaries and invited guests for a colourful session featuring live musical performances by the Master Piece Band, the Adehyeɛ Band from the Nsawam Medium Security Prison (NMSP), and Fearless Echoes, alongside a moving poetry recital by an inmate.

Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie stated that the overarching goal of the exhibition is to empower inmates to turn discarded waste materials into meaningful art pieces.

She stressed that the initiative seeks to redefine public perception of incarcerated individuals while generating funds through art auctions to enhance correctional facilities and inmate welfare.

The event was chaired by the Se Mantse of the Shai Traditional Area, H.E. HRM Drolor Bosso Adamtey, who commended the Service for linking rehabilitation directly to societal re-entry.

He praised the leadership for providing a constructive platform for inmates to uncover and polish their hidden talents.

In a brief remark, the Special Guest of Honour, Deputy Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi, observed that the exhibition underlines human resilience and the capacity for personal transformation despite life’s setbacks.

The ceremony concluded with a guided tour of the exhibition floor, followed by an auction of selected artworks to raise resources for developing dedicated creative arts centres across various prison establishments nationwide.
