The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has underlined the critical need to safeguard Ghana’s newly stabilised academic calendar, noting that the country has gone through a decade without such an efficient and cohesive schedule.
Speaking during an inspection tour at the Osu Presby Boys’ Primary School on October 12, aimed at evaluating conditions in the wake of a called-off two-week teachers’ industrial action, Mr Iddrisu emphasised that all educational actors must rally together to maintain the current momentum.
“In the last five to 10 years, we have never had a good academic calendar like we have now,” he stated, while highlighting the significance of keeping the calendar firmly on track.
The minister pointed out that harmonising schedules across pre-tertiary institutions and tertiary levels is vital for cutting down bottlenecks and giving students a clear path forward.
He further emphasised that pupils completing Senior High School (SHS) must transition smoothly into the next phase of learning without needless setbacks, ensuring they gain admission promptly after their results come out.
Reiterating the administration’s resolve, Mr Iddrisu noted that a dependable timetable is indispensable for finishing syllabi on time, conducting examinations as planned, and guaranteeing that learners advance seamlessly through the educational ladder.
