Officers from the Kpando Marine Police Command have arrested a 31-year-old man, Vincent Lotsu, for alleged illegal cultivation and possession of narcotics suspected to be Indian hemp in the Volta Region.

The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, during a routine patrol along the Volta Lake at Mangoase in the Central Tongu District.

According to a police release issued by the Public Relations Officer for the Volta North Region, Inspector Felix Kwao, patrol officers stumbled upon a suspicious fenced wooden structure along the lake.

“Behind the fence, police uncovered a plantation of suspected Indian hemp alongside sixteen (16) sacks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis in the suspect’s possession,” Inspector Kwao stated.

The suspect and the seized exhibits have since been transferred to the Kpando Police Divisional Investigation Department, while samples of the suspected narcotics have been dispatched to the crime laboratory for forensic examination.

Police confirmed that the suspect remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations and will be arraigned before court soon.

Meanwhile, the Volta North Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its resolve to crack down on drug trafficking and related crimes in the region.

“The command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and related offenses, warning individuals involved in such illicit activities to desist from that immediately,” the statement added.
