If the NDC wants, they can retire Mahama as Prez and appoint him as EC Chair; they will still lose the 2028 elections – Sir Cocroach

Lambert Appiah Rockson, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma South popularly known as ‘Sir Cocroach’, has stated that the appointment of Emelia Afi Agbenyo as Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) will not prevent an impending defeat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general elections.

According to him, the NDC could go ahead and appoint President John Dramani Mahama as Electoral Commissioner after his presidency, but the party would still lose the upcoming polls.

He was reacting to recent appointments made to the EC and the surrounding public debate, particularly regarding Madam Emelia Afi Agbenyo.

Madam Agbenyo was identified as a governance campaign spokesperson for the NDC during the 2024 elections, during which she actively campaigned for the party.

Critics have slammed the government for hypocrisy, pointing out that the party previously condemned former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointing an NPP IT Director to the EC, only to turn around and appoint an NDC affiliate as Deputy Chairperson.

In response to the criticism, Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated in a media interview that the latest appointment was intended to balance the equation.

Speaking on the weekend morning show on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Sir Cocroach asserted that the decision has fully exposed the hypocrisy of the NDC. He insisted that the party is destined to lose the 2028 general elections and that no electoral arrangement can alter that outcome.

He told host Eddie Ray: “This appointment comes as no surprise. If they like, they should bring President John Dramani Mahama out of retirement to head the EC, but they will still lose the 2028 general elections. They have failed the people, and Ghanaians will surely punish them at the polls.”
