The incumbent Secretary of the Juaben Constituency for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Zakaria Abdulai, has formally tendered his resignation and withdrawn his candidature for the position of Constituency Chairman in the party’s upcoming internal elections.
In an official letter addressed to the NDC General Secretary at the party’s national headquarters, J. J. Rawlings House in Accra, Mr Abdulai stated that his resignation and withdrawal from the race take immediate effect.
Addressing the national executive, Mr Abdulai wrote, “I write to formally notify you of my decision to resign from my position as the incumbent Secretary of the Juaben Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with immediate effect. I also wish to formally withdraw my candidature for the position of Constituency Chairman in the forthcoming NDC constituency elections, effective immediately.”
His departure follows growing public attention surrounding allegations levelled against him and his office. In his letter, the outgoing constituency officer expressed appreciation to his loyal supporters and expressed confidence in clearing his name.
“I wish to express my profound gratitude to my friends, relatives, and all well-wishers who have stood by me and maintained their faith in my innocence in the face of the allegations levelled against me and my office,” Mr Abdulai stated. “I am equally grateful to the National Democratic Congress for the opportunity to serve the Party as both a member and an officer. It has been a privilege to contribute to the growth and development of a political tradition that I deeply love and cherish.”
Outlining his immediate plans, Mr Abdulai indicated that he intends to step back from active political engagement to focus entirely on legal remedies to clear his reputation.
“At this time, I intend to devote my attention and resources to pursuing all lawful avenues to clear my name and vindicate my position. I remain hopeful that, once these matters are resolved, I will be able to return to active political engagement and continue contributing to the ideals and aspirations of the NDC,” he added.
Copies of the letter were officially served to the National Chairman of the NDC as well as the Ashanti Regional Chairman for necessary administrative action.
