The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated emphatically that it does not endorse or cover up acts of alleged sexual misconduct, maintaining that law enforcement agencies must be permitted to conduct an independent investigation without any political interference.

Speaking during a press briefing, the General Secretary of the opposition party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, clarified the party’s stance regarding the ongoing allegations against the headmaster of Obuasi Secondary Technical School (SHTS), who happens to be an NDC member.

He explained that although the headmaster was initially requested to step aside from an internal party contest—a decision that was followed by his voluntary withdrawal—the party remains resolute that it will not shield anyone from the law.

Addressing journalists, Mr Kwetey gave assurances that the leadership will allow state security agencies to thoroughly probe the matter to establish the facts.

“We have assured that this party will not in any way interfere. We want the truth to be brought out and on the back of the truth, the country will have clear assurance that as a party and as a government, we do not cover anybody. If he is found guilty, he will pay the highest price. If he is not guilty, we will be happy for him,” he stated.

Explaining the sequence of events, the General Secretary noted that at the time the initial directive was issued on Monday, party executives had not yet received the full investigative disclosures compiled by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni.

He added that subsequent clarifications regarding the accused person’s presumption of innocence were made in light of procedural fairness, but stressed that the NDC maintains an unwavering commitment to letting due process take its full course without compromise.
