The National Director of Communications for the United Party (UP), Solomon Owusu, has dismissed speculations surrounding a potential return of the party’s founder, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio’s morning current affairs programme, Nyankonton Mu Nsem, Mr Owusu clarified that recent reports suggesting Mr Kyerematen would only rejoin the NPP if offered the presidential ticket were taken entirely out of context.

He explained that the comments made by his political leader were delivered in jest and ought to be viewed strictly as a light-hearted rebuke of his former party rather than a serious political proposition.

“My boss was simply mocking the NPP with those statements, and no one should take them seriously. He has no intention whatsoever of going back to a party he consciously chose to leave,” Mr Owusu stated.

He further emphasized that Mr Kyerematen remains fully committed to the United Party, where he will serve as the flagbearer and lead the party’s campaign into the 2028 general elections.

Addressing questions regarding whether the UP leader might consider accepting a running mate slot alongside an NPP presidential candidate, the Communications Director ruled out any possibility of such a coalition.

He reiterated that Mr Kyerematen’s exit from the governing party was driven by fundamental disagreements and a deep dissatisfaction with its internal direction, making any reconciliation impossible.

“He left the NPP because he no longer aligned with the party or its principles. Nothing in this world will convince him to return or accept any position from them,” Mr Owusu added.
