The Regent of Dagbon, Kampakoya Naa Yakubu Abdulai Andani II, leading a high-powered delegation of chiefs and elders from the Gbewaa Palace, has completed a series of courtesy visits in Accra to express profound appreciation to key national leaders for their instrumental support during the recent burial of the late Overlord, Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama II, and his installation as Regent.
The tour began at the Police Headquarters, where the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, assured the Dagbon Kingdom of enhanced security arrangements as the traditional area prepares for subsequent funeral rites and the eventual enskinment of a new Ya-Naa.
Commending the Regent for undertaking the journey to show gratitude, the police chief reaffirmed the service’s commitment to maintaining law and order, promising even greater deployment and closer collaboration with the Dagbon Traditional Council to safeguard peace and stability across the region.
Continuing the tour, the delegation met with former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who described the successful restoration of peace to Dagbon as one of his proudest legacies.
Recalling the protracted chieftaincy crisis that stalled development for decades, the former president highlighted the crucial role played by the Committee of Eminent Chiefs led by the Asantehene, which culminated in the landmark enskinment of Ya-Naa Abukari II in 2019.
He commended the Regent for holding the fort and urged him to continue upholding traditional customs as the kingdom navigates the transition toward a new leadership.
The delegation also called on former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to thank him for his steadfast support and to reaffirm the enduring relationship between the kingdom and political leadership.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that peace remains the bedrock of development, noting that the relative tranquility achieved under the previous administration enabled major infrastructure milestones such as the Tamale International Airport, the Tamale Interchange, and the Tamale-Yendi-Tatale road.
He assured the Regent of his continued dedication to preserving the established succession roadmap and supporting the development aspirations of Dagbon.
