Political analyst Mr Samuel Boateng has stated that the upcoming constituency executive elections of the governing National Democratic Congress will serve as a crucial barometer for the party’s future electoral fortunes.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio’s morning current affairs programme, Nyakonton Mu Nsem, Mr Boateng emphasized that the outcome of the internal polls will demonstrate whether the party possesses the organizational discipline and cohesion required to maintain its hold on power ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He underscored the importance of maintaining peace throughout the democratic process, pointing out that Ghana remains a stable nation and that internal party exercises must reflect this calm climate. He warned against practices that could tarnish the democratic exercise, stressing that moneycracy and the influence of unapproved financial inducements must be kept out of the ballot.
“Ghana is a peaceful country, and therefore the party’s internal elections should bring nothing but peace,” Mr Boateng said. “I do not want to see moneycracy creeping into these elections to influence the democratic choice of delegates.”
Addressing concerns regarding the future direction of the party following the decisions of senior figures—including Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Sammy Gyamfi—not to pick nomination forms for the upcoming national congress, Mr Boateng indicated that such shifts are a standard feature of political cycles.
He explained that political figures naturally evaluate their career trajectories over time, and the decision to step aside or pursue alternative political ambitions should not come as a surprise to observers or party faithful.
“Every political season brings its own internal dynamics, so their decision does not surprise me,” Mr Boateng noted. “In politics, individuals have different ambitions, and that is entirely normal. We must allow new faces to step forward and steer the affairs of the party, just as others made way for previous leaders to have their turn.”
