Political analyst Mr Samuel Boateng has indicated that the decision by prominent leaders within the governing National Democratic Congress to step aside from internal executive contests should not be viewed as a crisis, but rather as an expected transition in public life.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio’s flagship current affairs show, Nyakonton Mu Nsem, Mr Boateng noted that senior party figures, including Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Sammy Gyamfi, stepping down or declining to pick nomination forms for the upcoming national congress simply reflects the natural ebb and flow of political service.
He argued that political careers move in distinct phases and that long-serving executives often reassess their roles or shift focus toward different public ambitions over time.
“Every political season brings its own internal dynamics, so their decision does not surprise me,” Mr Boateng said. “In politics, individuals have different ambitions, and that is entirely normal. We must allow new faces to step forward and steer the affairs of the party, just as others made way for previous leaders to have their turn.”
His remarks come as the NDC prepares for its constituency polls, an exercise Mr Boateng described as a crucial test of the party’s cohesion and readiness to retain power in the 2028 general elections.
While acknowledging the contribution of outgoing leaders, he maintained that fresh leadership is necessary to maintain momentum and organizational vitality ahead of future political battles.
Beyond national leadership changes, Mr Boateng cautioned delegates and organizers to safeguard the integrity of the constituency elections by avoiding monetary influence and conflict. Reminding party members of Ghana’s reputation for democratic stability, he stressed that internal party processes must remain peaceful and credible.
“Ghana is a peaceful country, and therefore the party’s internal elections should bring nothing but peace,” he added. “I do not want to see moneycracy creeping into these elections to influence the democratic choice of delegates.”
