American R&B singer Chris Brown has been handed an eight-month suspended prison sentence following a violent altercating at a London nightclub in 2023.
The 37-year-old musician pleaded guilty in July to a charge of affray after an incident at an establishment in Mayfair.
Security footage presented in court captured Brown striking music producer Abe Diaw on the head with a glass bottle. Diaw subsequently required hospital treatment for head and knee injuries.
Sentencing Brown at Southwark Crown Court, Judge Tony Baumgartner described the repeated use of a bottle as plainly dangerous, noting that while the confrontation was short, it was particularly intense.
Defense barristers acknowledged the outburst was ugly and unattractive, but emphasized its brief duration.
Under the terms of the sentence, the eight-month term is suspended for one year, allowing Brown to avoid immediate custody.
His co-defendant and vocal coach, 40-year-old Omololu Akinlolu, was handed a four-month prison sentence, also suspended for a year, for his role in the incident.
